Fiber reinforcement consists of thin fibers made from a synthetic thermoplastic polymer. They are often used in the construction sector as they serve as a good option for reinforcing concrete products. They provide it with the necessary strength and reliability. Also, with their help, you can not only reduce consumption but also improve the overall performance of the mortar by several points.
Application of Fiber Reinforcement and List of Options
As a rule, this material option is used in construction. The composition of fiber reinforcement makes it possible to obtain concrete with a high degree of strength, since the fibers are not exposed to temperatures or other negative factors.
Among the varieties of application, the following options can be highlighted:
- for reinforcing cement screed on roads;
- for implementing floor screeds;
- for the construction of various outdoor areas;
- used in the implementation of pools, reservoirs, and other water sources;
- when implementing projects with bridges or piles;
- for carrying out foundation strengthening;
- to obtain the strength of monolithic structures;
- for strengthening decorative elements for facade work.
Many construction companies have a question about which is better, fiber reinforcement or mesh. The first option has improved qualities in terms of stability and flexibility. Reinforcing mesh can eventually peel off from the total mass, which will lead to destabilization of the structure.

In What Quantities to Add Fiber to the Mortar?
The consumption of fiber reinforcement depends entirely on the dimensions and purpose of the product. Therefore, several key groups can be distinguished:
- when creating concrete road surfaces or floors in industrial premises, fibers from 12 to 40 mm can be used in a proportion of 1 kg/m3;
- for underfloor heating, material of 12 or 20 mm is used in an amount from 0.9 to 1.5 kg/m3;
- reinforced concrete products contain fibers of 12 or 20 mm in an amount of 0.9 kg/m3;
- for dry construction mixes, fiber from 6 to 12 mm is included at the rate of 1 kg/m3;
- decorative products and paving slabs involve the use of fiber with a size of 6-12 mm in an amount from 0.9 to 1 kg/m3.
By following the proportions, you can ensure that the product is protected from cracks and provided with the highest class of fire resistance. At the same time, the structure will not shrink, which will extend the service life. Also, the product will be resistant to mechanical influences and moisture, which will provide a chance for its use in extreme conditions. By adding fiber reinforcement, you can significantly reduce the consumption of the mix. At the same time, the fibers bond all particles perfectly, which ensures a full indicator of stability.
