Modern construction cannot be imagined without quality concrete, which
is used for the construction of buildings, roads, bridges and many other
objects. The main requirement for concrete is its strength and durability. To
achieve these characteristics, special additives are used.
Plasticisers. Plasticisers are additives that increase the
mobility of the concrete mix, improving its workability and reducing the
water-cement ratio. They promote uniform distribution of the mix components,
which ultimately increases the strength of the concrete. There are various
types of plasticisers on the market, including superplasticisers, which provide
maximum efficiency.
Air-entraining admixtures. These additives introduce microscopic air
bubbles into the concrete mix, which significantly improves its frost
resistance. Air-entraining admixtures prevent the concrete from breaking during
freezing and thawing, increasing its durability and strength. This is
especially important for structures exposed to climatic conditions.
Waterproofing additives. Waterproofing admixtures are designed to
reduce the water absorption of the concrete mixture. They make concrete
watertight by preventing moisture and chemicals from penetrating the structure.
This helps protect the reinforcement from corrosion and increases the overall
strength of the product.
Curing accelerators. Curing agents are used to reduce the setting
time and increase the rate of concrete strength gain. These additives are
particularly useful in low temperature conditions when the curing process is
slowed down. Rapid curing can reduce construction time and increase
productivity.
Curing retarders. Curing retarders are used to extend the working time
of the concrete mix, which is important for large monolithic structures. These
additives slow down the setting process, allowing the concrete to spread evenly
and preventing cracking. They also increase the durability and strength of the
finished product.
Fibre fibre. The addition of fibre fibre to the concrete mix
significantly increases its tensile strength and impact resistance. Fibre fibre
prevents cracking and improves the overall structure of concrete. It is used in
the construction of floors, road surfaces and other objects where high
mechanical strength is important.
Concrete admixtures play a key role in improving concrete
characteristics such as strength, durability and resistance to external
influences. The use of plasticisers, air binders, waterproofing agents, curing
accelerators and retarders, fibre fibres and mineral admixtures allows the
creation of high-quality concrete products that meet the highest requirements.
When selecting additives, it is important to take into account the specific
conditions of construction and the requirements for the final product. Thus,
the correct selection and use of additives ensures successful construction and
durability of concrete structures.
